Tech Tip: See what Mandrakelinux 10.0 Community has to offer
Takeaway: Learn about the Mandrakelinux 10.0 Community.
In March of 2004, Mandrakesoft released Mandrakelinux 10.0 Community. The latest version of Linux comes with the typical number of updated packages, bringing everything up to the most recent versions. (The only exception is XFree86 due to its licensing changes.)
Mandrakelinux 10.0 also incorporates new features, including both the Linux 2.6.3 and 2.4.25 kernels and Glibc 2.3.3 with Native POSIX Threads Library (NPTL) support. Considering the new features and the 2.6 kernel's new process scheduling features, Mandrakelinux 10.0 should feel much snappier than any previous release.
The new version also comes with KDE 3.2 as the default desktop, along with Mozilla 1.6. For those who prefer other desktop managers, GNOME 2.4, XFCE4, and other window managers such as Enlightenment are included.
Mandrakesoft has revamped a number of its tools, and the Mandrake Control Center, looking somewhat more stylish, offers even better support for configuring your computer. The company has put a fair amount of polish into various desktop components to enhance user experience.
One of the biggest changes with this version is that Mandrakesoft is now releasing two versions. The Community version is more bleeding-edge and immediately available. In May 2004, Mandrakesoft plans to release Mandrakelinux 10.0 Official, which will contain any last-minute showstoppers and security fixes.
Mandrakelinux 10.0 Community is now available for download via your favorite mirror sites or by using BitTorrent. For information on obtaining a copy, visit the Mandrakelinux Web site.
