The problem

Many keyboards today include the Windows key between [Ctrl] and [Alt] keys, but there's never an explanation about what the key is used for.

The cause

Around the time Microsoft shipped Windows 95, it also produced the Microsoft Natural Keyboard. This was the first keyboard to include the Windows key function. Now the Windows key is a common, if little known or used, function on most modern keyboards. The Windows allows users to quickly do things without having to reach for the mouse.
